There are tons of strategies that offer to teach you how to lose 10 pounds and several of them work.  It’s usually not the program that doesn’t work that keeps people from losing weight - it’s us.

I read about a recent study that showed that approximately 50% of people joining a gym or starting a new exercise routine will not be doing it 6 months later.

So what’s the problem?  There are several issues that we have to deal with when we want to lose 10 pounds or any amount of weight.  Motivation, commitment, goals, monitoring and feedback are some of the primary issues.

I want to talk about goals for now.

Most people say they want to lose weight.  I would say this person is not going to lose weight.  There’s no action steps or set deadline for when you have to lose that weight.

Here’s an example of a well defined goal:  “To lose 10 pounds in four months, I will continue to do 30 minutes of brisk walking, four times a week in the next four weeks.”

This person will lose that weight.
